 To know the reason why it is not working, verify a few things like:

  • The home button of your iPhone is free of dirt, dust, water, oil, any other liquid. If you it has any stain of dirt, dust, water, or oil clean it with a soft cloth. Don’t use any a liquid cleaner directly on the home button.
  • If there is any accessories attached to the home button, remove all of them.
  • Make sure that your registered finger is also free from dirt, dust, water, oil, any other liquid as your finger the impression will not match in that case.
  • If you have replaced the assembly display at unauthorized service provider it can also be a reason why touch ID not working on iPhone issue.

Solutions to Fix the Issue if Touch ID Not Working On iPhone

Option 1: Toggle Touch ID & Passcode

You can always choose how you are going to use your fingerprint ID. Means, do you want to use it while buying something from iTunes & App Store or to unlock your phone? Toggling the feature off and then on it again may fix this issue. To do so, please follow the steps:

  • Go to settings >> Touch ID & Passcode
  • Type your password
  • Swipe off iPhone unlock and iTunes & App Store
  • Wait for a while and Swipe it back on

Option 2: Reset Touch ID

To fix Touch ID not working on iPhone issue, you can try to reset it. Delete your registered fingerprints and adding them back again can resolve the touch ID not working issue on your device.

To reset Touch ID, access Touch ID & Passcode window and delete all registered fingerprint IDs. To do so, tap on the fingerprint list and then tap on the option “Delete Fingerprint”. Once you delete all registered fingerprint IDs, create them again. Make sure that you record your fingerprints by using different fingerprint sides/positions: right, left, top sides and so on while registering your fingerprints.

Option 3: Restart your iPhone

Restarting the device is a good trick as it can resolve many iPhone issues. When you restart your iPhone, it refreshes the iPhone, kill frozen apps and bugs that may be the reason errors and issues on your device. To restart your phone, just press the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until you see a “Slide to power off” message on the screen. Swipe it to the right and wait until the iPhone gets completely Off. Turn On the iPhone after a minute by pressing the same button until you see an Apple logo on your iPhone’s screen.

Option 4: Erase iPhone

  • Open iTunes on your Mac/PC
  • By using a lightning cable, connect your iPhone or iPad to Mac/PC
  • Click Restore on the Summary tab
  • iTunes will download the firmware first
  • Whenthe process is finished, set up your device as new

What if Touch ID Not Working on iPhone after iOS update

iOS update is a must for your iPhone is important as updates are released to fix some bug and glitch, and bring performance improvements in the phone. Though, update is a smooth process, but if you don’t perform it properly, it doesn’t always go smooth. “Touch ID not working on iPhone’ is one issue that may occur after iOS update. If you are stuck in the same situation right now, there are some solutions provided below to help you in your iPhone issue.

  1. Wait for a day

Wait at least a day if you found that the Touch ID not working after updating the iOS on your iPhone as the device may take some time to get settled after the update.

  1. Re-setup fingerprints

It is possible that the updating process make some changes in the settings of your iPhone. Check if it has reset your Touch ID (fingerprints) too. The better way is if you reset touch ID: by going to Settings >> Touch ID & Passcode >> tap on all fingerprints list >> tap on Delete to confirm that you want to reset your Touch ID, then, create the new fingerprints ID.
